have you tried connecting that drive to another computer and try recovering the data successfully? if yes . then you are hopeless mate.
also . you know that you need to go to Control panel --> Administrative tools ----> Computer Management ---> Disk Management (you find it on the left ) . make sure that your drive is connected when you go there . do you see your drive there ?

Hi,
Short of sending your HD to a data recovery company -which is not a cheap undertaking in anyway- I advise you to try "GetDataBack for NTFS" of which a trial version is available as a free download. The trial version will attempt to recover your files but will stop at the point where you restore them back. This is useful to check if it will help you in your problem before investing 69 dollars in buying it. This link may be useful:http://www.runtime.org/gdb.htm
Providing you are reasonably computer literate -which is quite evident from your question- you should be able to operate it OK. Make sure to to check (recover deleted files) and all other options from the options menu prior to scanning. I used this software and it had saved the day for me many many times.
Good luck.

This has a GREAT chance of working. Put the hard drive in the freezer for a couple of hours then see if your files show back up. This is an old school trick that used to be very useful. Good Luck
