Use Adobe CS3 apps. PhotoShop, Illustrator, InDesign and Acrobat. Stay right away from Serif and Corel Draw as most advertising companies will be running Apple compatible software and those you mentioned are less widespread Windows based software. Any advertising company that predominately uses Windows computers should be avoided, in my opinion.
You should invest in the Adobe Suite package it will give you all the software you will ever need to do graphic design for a great price.http://www.graphicdesigns4you.com
