I’m sure that my laptop has viruses as it’s been very slow recently and free scans have appeared from norton when i’m on the internet that show many viruses but i’m not sure if this is just to get me to buy a norton package. When i scan my computer however it never shows up any viruses at all. I’m very confused and afraid it will ruin my computer. Anyone have any ideas? i use vista by the way.

I accidentally performed a System Recovery using the VAIO Recovery Wizard. This was a result of misinformation provided by a Sony LiveChat technician regarding a problem that I was having. As a result, I lost all my documents, pictures, itunes, etc. Now my laptop and hardrive are restored to their original factory installed conditions. Sony did suggest a company that could help me recover my files. However, when I called the company they quoted me $500-$2500.
In addition, my CD-Rom drive was not working before the System Recovery was performed. This is why I do not have backup disks of my files. I have not tried to use my CD-Rom drive after the System Recovery was performed because I was told not to use my computer any further.
I wanted to know if it is possible to recover data from a hardrive that has been deleted. I believe there is a software program called recover my files??? Has anyone used it and did it work?

I have a gateway desktop computer I’ve had for a few years.
My disk check that runs on boot up after it crashes, kept finding bad spots… and the thing finally crashed and died. I have found a new hard drive for a great deal and I want to buy it. I am not sure though, if my “system recovery disk” will re-install windows on a totally new hard drive. Will it, or do I need to buy windows again. I hope I don’t because I like my xp because I know it is compatible with all my software and games. Will a new hard drive solve the problem?
