I Have A Windows Xp Product Key That Came With My Computer But No Software Cd…?

I purchased a Gateway computer that came with Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005. The computer has a sticker on the back with a Windows XP product key. I do not have a CD of Windows XP, just a recovery CD for my dead Gateway.
I would like to know if the copy of Windows that came with my computer can be used on another computer now that my original computer is dead?
Also, since my computer didn’t give me an actual Windows software CD, just the Gateway Recovery CD, can I still even install this copy of Windows on another computer? If so, how?

Question About Hp Pc Recovery?

i cant do a system restore, but i can do a pc recovery, and i think its just re-installing the windows software, does that also delete the old stuff your computer or does it remain hidden and take up space. Cuz the guy at the shop charges $99 to do a full system restore just like new from manufacturer or something.

Acer System Recovery Help?

I’m having some trouble with my laptop and was told that it is a fault with the windows XP software. I had previously made a ‘Acer recovery disc’. When i boot the laptop with the recovery disc it asks ‘Restore system to factory default settings’. What i want to know is if i do this, will i loose all my files? Including the files that were on my desktop?
