I have an old computer which is too old to run on the network anymore. However I would like to run some very old software one it which doesn’t need a network so want it to revert to a standalone one. Unfortunately I don’t have a recovery disk. Is there anyway to do it manually?

I just got a copy of an old old old accounting software that i want to install on my laptop for school. But my teacher said that being such old software it won’t install as easily as something new would. How can i manually install it? When i open the file, it just says that the “file path is not found.”

I’m thinking of buying a Dell computer, but all the Computers I’ve ever had, have been ones built from parts by my cousin or the local computer shop. I’ve heard people say things like companies slowdown computers with bloatware or use a recovery disk for such and such(what the heck is a recovery disk?).
So what I’m asking is how would a Dell be different than if you used the same specs to have your local computer shop build one. Software differences, hardware differences, limitations on how or what software can be used, or some other difference?
