Whenever i start up my computer it asks me if i want to start up Windows in Safe Mode or with the settings that worked last time. it doesn’t matter what option i choose, my computer will just restart and ask me again

I have had major problems with spyware/viruses since yesterday late afternoon.
I have since updated my macfee antivirus and checked for viruses deleting some unwanted items. I have gone though my settings and increased my security, deleted/stopped cookies, stopped mirosoft messenger. I have installed yahoo toolbar with anti-spy and pop up blocker. I have installed free spybot.
All seems fine now as I was getting lots of warning and advert pop ups telling me to buy software. I do not have any pop ups now.
I read that if you do not ‘buy’ an anti-spy software and you use free software you should use two free ones rather than one so it is more cover. Is yahoo anti-spy and spybot enough or should I get something else.
Could there still be a hidden problem, as the warnings started yesterday evening and I had to go on line and generally use the pc to fix the problem today could someone already have private info on me? One warning did give me IP number of someone??

I am using an HP laptop and its running on the shitty vista and i might do a format soon. So i wanted to know which is better to use to recover all my installed softwares after formatting. Is it the HP recovery system or norton ghost?
Also, using HP recovery system (F11) will only restore the laptop to its factory settings and not like norton ghost?right?
Also if you have any other suggestions after answering my questions plz tell me.
P.S. I created recovery disks using HP recovery system when i first got the laptop but there wasnt any softwares installed at that time.

BSOD: Copied over /repair/software and now can’t login!?
My work computer recently stopped working. When I boot it up, it gives me blue screen with hive message can’t find system32\config\system. I went into recovery console but it wanted admin password which I don’t have and corporate won’t give me. I don’t want to send it in and wait to get it back, so I hooked up hdd to a desktop and copied c:\windows\repair\software to c:\windows\system32\config\sof… Put hdd back into laptop and booted up and it boots into windows! However, it doesn’t recognize my username/password anymore. What can I do to fix this?
