The last laptop I bought before my new one came with recovery discs. One of the discs would erase the hard drive and the other one would re-install all of the pre-installed software to an “out of the box” original state when I bought it. My new laptop does not have any recovery discs. I have discovered most do not come with recovery discs. Here is my question. Can I make my own recovery discs and if so how? The back up program which came with my Windows Vista states it will back up all files EXCEPT program files, so that will not help restore the system if it crashes. I realize it is a remote possibility while it is in warranty (one year) but what about after that? Your comments are appreciated. Thanks

I have 2 eMachines computers, one with preset eMachines software inc Windows XP on it. The other one has just got XP installed.
They both are exactly the same and have same spec and software installed, but non preset computer works a lot faster.
If i was to install my own copy of XP onto preset computer, and i wanted to go back to eMachines version, will the recovery cds still work as they say that they only work with eMachines pcs and im not sure that the pc will be recognised as an eMachines pc with my own copy of xp installed and after formatting the hard drive etc. Will they still work?
Also, will one set of recovery cds work in another eMachines pc?

Tried to install the free bee’s to fix – did not help.

My friends Gateway laptop model MX6445 got loaded with viruses as he was not using any av software or protection/firewall. I ran Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and it found some 480 infected items which it claims to have fixed (this is freeware btw). When I rebooted the laptop it would not even bring up the desktop or icons. It just keeps locking up during the power-up boot process, in fact now all I get is a blank screen unless I hit the F2 BIOS or F10 Bootup keys. I was trying to figure out if this PC has a “system recovery partition” which on many PCs can be accessed during power-up by pressing F1, F10 or F11 which then takes you to the system recovery option.
I thought maybe I could atleast do a destructive recovery and restore this machine to its original factory settings and get it working again. I think it is maybe 2 years old, not quite sure. I am not too familiar with Gateways. I doubt this PC has restore points available – even if it did I don’t think the user ever created any restore points in the past. Does anyone know if I can access a Recovery Partition on this machine, and if so how (which F key to press ??) Thanks !!

I’m considering opening a data recovery business from my home, with possibly expanding it to also selling software I’ve written. Interaction with clients will be done by mail, with payment either being sent by mail or via Paypal. There will be no foot traffic in my home, to avoid zoning issues.
I want to do this legally but I’m unsure how to go about it. All the start-up guides I’ve read assume foot traffic in the home and a physical product to sell.
The county business license form I’ve obtained requires a state tax ID number. The state tax ID form seems to assume a brick and mortar business with foot traffic and physical products, so some of the questions don’t seem to apply to the type of business I’ll be doing.
Can someone give me some tips on what I need to do, or point me to a guide that better applies to what I’m doing? Thanks.
