If the LDS folks don't have any free software that they recommend that people download, then you might want to consider FTM. The first purchase is usually the most expensive one... all upgrades are offered at a much lower price. The most recent upgrade notice I received was that it would cost $29.99. What is nice about upgrading FTM is that you can open your older file in the new one without missing a beat. I've never heard of a free software that was very widely used.
