my computer is a Gateway MX3560 notebook. I recently switched out the 80GB hard drive for a 160GB. I installed windows on it but didn’t like how it ran so i put the old one back in and now i am getting the “press F11 to start recovery” message over and over again. I press F11, F8, F2, every key on my keyboard but nothing happens. Is my hard drive dead? If not, how can I fix it? I can still boot from CDs and USB, but that is not my goal…
**my goal is to dual-boot windows xp and SUSE Linux 11.1 KDE on the 160GB HDD.**
The problem is that when I installed windows on the 160GB, drivers and other important software were not installed. (Why is this?)
…I can’t boot into safe mode…
please let me know if you need any additional information.

When you swapped the hard drives your BIOS had to re detect them, i recommend entering your BIOS to fix your boot settings, if you can not access your BIOS or Setup from boot up then something other than your hard drive is malfunctioning. I recommend taking this to some one you know who is good with computers (not a store) who should be able to help you. But since i do not have physical access to the machine i can not verify this for sure, but this would be the most common problem.
With your drivers not being installed, Windows XP does not come with your drivers, if it included every driver for every piece of hardware it would be huge! You have to install the drivers manually after install or before by slip streaming an xp install disc. a simple google search will show you how.
