Removing Vista And Installing Xp With Old Recovery Disk?

Ok, so let me say that I am not very computer intelligent. I can use them fine, but when it comes to software, I am a moron.
That being said, I recently purchased an Inspiron laptop from Dell and it came loaded with Vista. I HATE VISTA!!! My computer constantly freezes to the point where I have to do a hard restart and I lose whatever work I have not saved. Dell tech support is being no help to me. I have some windows XP recovery disks from a Dell desktop that I bought back in 2001. Would I be able to use those recovery disks to put XP on my new laptop? How would I go about removing Vista and then installing XP on my computer? I have read about people using XP and Vista on the same computer, but I don’t want to do that, I want Vista off of my computer.

No you can’t use an old recovery Disk on a newer laptop because recovery disks only apply to a particular laptop/computer model.
The only option would be to buy windows XP and install it to your computer from there. You could also return your laptop and opt to buy it again with windows XP installed for no extra charge (I believe Dell lets you choose between Vista and XP).
On second note, if your laptop freezes to the point of a hard restart often, that is an indication that there might be a major problem with the laptop and not just vista. I mean wouldn’t you be pissed at Dell for sending you a laptop that freezes all the time (say regardless of what OS is on it). I think this issue requires immediate attention before you go figure out what OS to install.
