Computer System Recovery Please Help?

i recovered my computer and lost all my files, documents, everything.
i know there are programs u can download of the internet, that can search ur computer for those old files.
i know that, because even though the files are gone from the computer, they could be found in other places like the hardrive
PLEASE can any tell me where i can get off the internet a file system recovery for free.
i had a 10 page research paper and its due on mon, and its gone. please can someone help me
