Whenever i start up my computer it asks me if i want to start up Windows in Safe Mode or with the settings that worked last time. it doesn’t matter what option i choose, my computer will just restart and ask me again
I had almost 10000 songs on my computer that i collected over the years and i’ve looked into data recovery companies but they’re too expensive. what’s the best course of action? Is there any software that can help?

ya. i use this program, it is very in depth at recovering data. the trial should let u recover the data. burn it to a disk.http://www.recoversoft.com/
email me if it does not.
or try hooking up another hard drive that has a os on it and set ur broken one as a slave and try to recover it.
It depends on why your computer crashed. If it is not your whole hard drive but just a few sectors then you may be able to recover your files. Boot your computer from your CD drive with a recovery disk or your original windows disk. Once you are in windows go to the control panel and see what you can do to repair your c drive. Option two is to buy a new hard drive and load your software back onto it. Once you have a stable system plug your old drive in as a second slave drive. Note before you do this make very sure that it was not a virus or something else that got you in the first place. Update all your anti virus software with the latest. Once this is done you can go into the control panel and assign a drive letter. Do not reformat the drive. At this point any files that are on the drive and still readable can be transferred to your new drive.
GREETINGS, there has to be a reason why it’s doing that, I would suspect a virus. do you have any antivirus software disks that you can put in and do a scan with? you can use them to restart your computer too. I would try that first. The only other alternative is to use the DOS settings and try a system restore back to before it started doing that, worth a shot just to try to save the songs. Which windows do you have and do you know how to use the DOS to do a restore?
Unfortunately, no. I just went through the same thing. I had to reformat my hard drive and lost everything. The only way you MIGHT be able to is to go through the recovery companies. Sorry. I know the feeling. The only thing I think of is that it is a new virus or something so I.m backing up EVERYTHING!!!!
You could boot to the windowsXP cd and chose the Recovery Consule , Dos command of…. chkdsk (space) /f
chkdsk /f < make sure there is a space between the word chkdsk and the slash /f
Otherwise, do a repair install with the windowsXP cd by chosing “Install windows” from the first menu screen, and on the second screen chose “Hit R for Repair” and repair the C: drive. Follow the onscreen instructions.
if you have a windows disk, you may be able to fix it.
you can at least get your music if your user wasn’t password protected.
if you have a windows disk, boot from it, and let it do it’s thing starting up.
when prompted, press r for repair.
you’ll get a dos prompt after a moment.
it will ask you what windows partition you want to log into.
press 1 and then press the enter key.
now it will ask the administrator password, normally this is blank. just press enter.
when you get to the c:windows prompt, type in without the quotes “chkdsk /r” there’s a space between the k and the /r switch prewss enter and let it do it’s thing til it’s done.
type exit and press the enter key.
reboot and press F8 to see if you can get into safe mode.
if you make it to safe mode, reboot into windows.
If you are getting to a menu asking about safe mode or last good settings, most likely the drive and the files are ok. The windows installation is most likely what went bad. Try this:
1.) Buy a new hard drive, install it into the computer. Set your current hard drive to slave (by adjusting jumper pins on the back of drive)
2.) Proceed to install a fresh copy of windows onto the new drive.
3.) Boot up your newly installed copy of Windows. You should see your current drive listed under ‘My Computer’ and have access to all your music, documents, etc..
Basically this method would allow your computer to boot windows from the new drive, and use your current drive only for file storage.
Alternatively, have a friend burn you a free Linux Live CD (A copy of linux that can be booted right from your CDROM without any need to permanently install it) A good one is Kanotix (kanotix.com) Set your BIOS to boot off the CD-ROM before the hard drive and you’ll end up on a linux desktop (great to have around anytime your computer won’t boot because you can use it to access the internet and all your files.) From here you’ll see your Windows drive displayed as an icon right on the desktop. Right click the icon and choose ‘mount.’ Now you can access your windows drive and all your files. You could then burn them onto a DVD/CD or copy them to a thumb drive or other usb external hard drive. Once everything is backed up and safe, format your hard drive and reinstall Windows.
Whether you get your music collection back or not, take this opportunity to start backing up everything you’d hate to lose from this moment on. Hopefully this will turn out alright for you, I had to learn the hard way a couple of times myself
Hope this helps!
Don’t worry, we can save your 10000 songs. Your Windows systems files are corrupted, grab a Windows XP installation disk and re-install a new Windows environment. Make sure not to partitioned or format your hard drive.
Another safest way is grab a new hard drive, detach your old hard drive and attached the new one. Install Windows XP and once installation is finished, connect your old hard drive as a slave drive. From there you can access your songs from drive D: or E:, your new hard drive is drive C:
what Operating System do u use ?
If its XP, then u need to boot with the windows XP cd and u need to repair the windows.
boot from the cd and then select the 2nd repair option to repair the windows.
