say if i was to install a software worth 686 MB and HP RECOVERY D: has exactly 686 MB room left. My C has 51 GB. so if i downloaded this software would it affect D?

Not sure I understand your communication, but if you have only 686 MB left on a HD, do not download any more. Try to leave 5-10% disk space. If you have another drive you can put that on and meets that criteria, that’s the route that’s safest for you and will prevent crashing or major problems
