How To Fix Corrupted Files Ms Word Or Excel?

What happen is, I recover the MS Word & Excel documents in a state of reformatted/re-installation OS using a recovery software like File Scavenger. The Files are recovered but shows no good in form not alphabetic its in chinese odd nos, totally outrageous characters. Can someone suggest something? Please help. The error before it will open is”The file you are trying to open, ‘filename.xls’, is in a different format than specified by the file extension. Verify that the file is not corrupted and is from a trusted source before opening the file. Do you want to open the file now?” And I click YES, but result is not good. So, please please please help me.

   Have you tried running a repair on MS Office? To do so, go to Start >>> Control Panel >>> Add/Remove Programs >>> Click on your MS Office listed there, then click Change, then select Repair and follow the prompts.
