Email Messages Stripped From Outlook Express Folders?

Just wondered if anyone can help / advize me?
I opened up outlook express on my computer today and three quarters (not sure why just three quarters?) of my email folders have been completely stripped of their email content – They’re empty! Of course including real important emails that – Yes, should have been backed up! Whoops!
On the basis that (as I understand it) everything that has ever been downloaded onto a computer is in there somewhere – Even if it’s previously been deleted or lost – (Yes I’m clutching at straws)! – Is there someway for me to recover my lost emails?
I purchased some recovery software – Supposedly approved by microsoft – It’s says -”Get Your Email Back” but so far it’s failed to “get my emails back”!
If anyone can tell me how I can recover my emails I would be very grateful.

    When using Outlook and you have deleted a message, then the Exchange-server will by default retain deleted items, so they are recoverable 7 days. To recover a mail select the “Deleted Items”-folder go to Tools, Recover Deleted Items.
    If doing a hard delete by holding down Shift+Delete to delete a message, then it is not moved to “Deleted Items”-folder. Making it impossible to recover such a deleted message the standard way. Instead one can apply the following registry key to enable recovery of messages from any folder:
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SOFTWARE Microsoft Exchange Client Options]
    DumpsterAlwaysOn = 1

    Are you sure they’re not in an archive somewhere?
