There are many types of software – sometimes more than one is probably used just for one game. I suppose it would also depend on the type of game you wish to create.
Maths isn’t a big part. Programming is. It may have some maths, but its not usually a really important thing to know, especially in some software packages which can use a click and drop style rather than programming.
First steps would be starting at the basics and working up. Character creation, movements, settings/backgrounds, other objects and so on.
Maybe try a simple program to start with. 3D game maker for example. Simple drag and drop. The go on to game maker 7 (download it online) where you can use a drag and drop and add programming. You can make it is advanced as you want. Then you can go on to other programs from there
C ++ is the best place to start. easiest programming language by far and almost as common as a PC nowadays.
Maths is the key point when utilising coordinates or tracking. i myself am not too good at maths but i manage perfectly with it
best first step would be a tutorial or even school or college at least that way you can guarantee one to one help with it and can find able resources…. hope this helps
