Is it much more difficult than downloading software for a PC? Will I find myself having to purchase a lot of expensive software?

  1. Hmmm… delicate question…
Let’s look at it from this point of vue: Mac is based on UNIX, and UNIX has more open-source software. Therefore, you can get plenty of free software for it.
If you plan on purchasing software, note that most Mac software is a bit more affordable than Windows’.
Yes, you can get pirated software but they are not recommended. There are obvious legal reasons, but you could also get a trojan (there is a knows trojan out there for pirated iWork ‘09).
Bottom line: getting a Mac is a great choice, go for it.
    Good luck!

To download legal software (open source for example) is just as easy on a mac as it is on a pc. And most of the time probably safer because there aren’t as many viruses and malicious software for macs.
Whether or not you’ll have to purchase software for any computer will depend on what you want to do with it? If you want to surf the net, then probably not. If you want to edit movies or run a business or something similar then you’ll probably have to buy some software.

If you buy a Mac you can run open source software such as gimp, openoffice.org, blender, etc. This is free (no need to pirate) software. You can download it via the internet without worrying about breaking the law.
Also, consider using a Linux Operating System which comes with all the software you will ever need and runs on most PCs. Linux is free and open source software (no need to pirate). There are several versions but some of the more popular ones are Ubuntu, LinuxMint, Mandriva, and DreamLinux.
You download the Operating System and burn it to disk. Then just put the disk in the disk drive and reboot your computer. Make sure the computer will boot off the disk drive first. This will allow you to try it out and if you like it to load it onto the hard drive.
If you use Linux you won’t have to be concerned about malware such as viruses, worms, adware, spyware, etc. It is a very secure system.
Best of all it’s all free. No more pirating necessary.

Not at all. If the application exists, and you have to pay for it, you’ll be able to find it.

  5. sosguy says:

If your decision to buy a Mac is based upon your ability to download illegal software, you are not worthy of a Mac.

  6. † Oh yeah says:

You are likely to get a trojan downloading pirated Mac software.

  7. Joey says:

It’s not that difficult at all.
If you do it through ThePirateBay.org i doubt that you’ll ever get charges against you.
