Can Anyone Recommend A Good Antivirus Software That Doesnt Cost Too Much?

I have looked at Norton and McAfee and I feel that the amount they expect people to pay is too much (around £40 – £50).
I have looked at free software but I am worried that it doesnt provide enough protection.
Does anyone know antivirus software that will scan my pc, delete any viruses, filter and incoming stuff while im surfing the net, etc, but that doesnt cost too much (maybe £10 – £30?)

AVG is Great and it’s free. Just type in the search bar: AVG antivirus and select the free full version instead of the free trial and you’re sorted for life….it’s really quick to download updates which are being produced all the time so even if someone was on dial-up it wouldn’t take too long……everyone seems to give it a good review..

AVG and Avast are both JUNK. I recommend active virus shield. It is the best and it is free.

I’d say Zonealarm Security Suite which is under 40. I particularly enjoy its an all in one tool. Has a firewall, anti virus, antispyware,
anti spam. The anti spam integrates with Outlook Express so when u receive mail it just picks it phis-hing and spam easily.
It possible to block adverts, pop ups and other annoying things websites do to track u. It has a parental control too.
Most important, if you enter your precious personal information into Zonealarm it will warn you where the information is being transmitted to, which u can choose to Allow or Deny.
I tried Mcafee and Norton. I don’t like them, because they do not do the above effectively.

AVG Free is great, it provides protection and does not hog your system as much as Norton or McAfee, I have used AVG for years and never suffered from a virus, also a good programme to download is Lavasoft Ad-Aware (also free) provides protection from spy-ware.
Still don’t like the idea of AVG then try Bulldog!

One of the ones I use Spyware Doctor and I got it for about $30 and it works quite well.

  11. Or Avast or AOL.http://www.avast.com and http://www.aol.com/security respectively. Both are free and excellent programs and as already mentioned AVG is very good. I would download a firewall with all three though for extra protection. Zonealarm from http://www.zonealarm.com is a excellent firewall.

    - this is their professional version, since you are thinking about purchasing one and within your budget: GBP 24.95

I use an excellent free antivirus program in my primary computer that will give you state of the art technology. Avast has an excellent background scanner, that never fails to catch a virus and destroy before the virus can enter your system. You also get two or three times per day automatic updates.
Avast is out of Prague. They will ask you for your email address so that they can send you a free key that is good for one year. After one year you just request a new key.
Never had one virus in over nine years of use.
Their free version is the same as the corporate version. They just make corporate pay.http://www.avast.com

I am also using AVG and I am satisfied with it, it doesn’t take a lot of memory and in the past has caught trojan horses and worms that Norton wasn’t able to detect.

I use and would recomend Avast. I have had no problems at all since it has been installed, it has a good user interface and lets you know what its doing well (i.e updates etc) also if you are using outlook it has a good resident shield.
And the best bit, no money needs to leave your pocket…….

Can’t beat AVG. It’s free and does the job. If you read posts on this site you’ll find that many people reccomend it. Check out the link.
P.S. Ive had McAfee and Norton before and wouldn’t touch them with a barge pole. Bloated software that just bogs down your system.

  25. azmansel says:

There are two I recommend, one is free and one is expensive yet brilliant!
The free one is AVG free (it is far superior to Norton or Mcafee and doesn’t use as much memory)
a link to it is here…http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1
the costly one is called Sophos which is the industry standard for IT support companies…http://www.sophos.com
    hope this helps
