What is the best free software for recording music?
&
What is the best software around $50 or under for recording music?
I’ve been recommended Acoustica MixCraft.
If anyone uses this, opinions?
Also, what about Audacity?

You can try WavePad recorder/editor – it has a freeware version and a licensed version (for more complex things like frequency analysis).
Unlike Audacity you don’t need to install extra things to save your files to Mp3.
It’s available for Mac OS X and Windows. It’s a tiny download (less than 1MB) and the licensed version usually goes for around $38.00 if you need the extra features.

to be honest Audacity is probably the best free recording program you can get or pay under $50 for. Keep in mind that audacity is only good for recording your songs. Check out ShockTrack.com to produce it.
