I am not able to locate the CD-ROM disc that originally came with the camcorder and am looking to find software that I can download for free.

I think you’ll be out of luck! The DZHS300A records in MPEG-2 – it’s a poor format for editing but most commercial editors can handle it. I don’t know of any free ones – the cheapest I’ve come across is AVS Video Editor.
I think your Hitachi Dzhs300a Camcorder already have it’s own video editing software. It comes with the installation CD. You have to install it first before you can use it.
