Hi, my friend has a toshiba satellite pro L300 series laptop with a windows xp software. She wants to reboot it but doesn’t have the recovery discs. Is there a way to do this manually?

Do you really mean reboot and not reinstall?
To reboot, you do not need the recovery discs. Just press the Ctrl + Alt + Del keys to reboot the computer. If the system has hung up then it can’t be rebooted. You will have to hold down the power switch for several seconds until the system shuts down. Then switch it on again.
If you need to reinstall, you will need the recovery discs. Reinstallation can be done manually without the recovery discs, but you will need to have the Windows XP CD & license key, and all the drivers for the notebook.
Reinstalling it manually can be done, but there may be several components which will not be recognised as the XP CD may not have the drivers, such as network adapters, video adapters, audio device, etc.
You will also not get back all the utilities that came with the original installation such as touchpad drivers and utilities, etc
