What Is The Best Software To Compress Music Files?

I have a 4GB ipod and i just reached the point where I have more music than my ipod can fit. I don’t want to delete any songs or have to check which songs I want on it, so if you know any great music file compress software so I can hold more songs on my ipod, that would be great!

First disregard Audacity. It’s a program I often recommend for recording/editing and will compress a file further but only one at a time.
That’s a long job with 4 gigs of files.
You can convert/compress batches of files with this app from Koyote Soft.http://koyotstar.free.fr/indexEn.html
    A typical file size for mp3s is about 3 – 5 Mb.
All of my music files have been converted from wav at a compression ratio of 128 kbps which is an acceptable compromise between file size and quality.
As your files have already been compressed it is not advisable to reduce the file size further.
The absolute bottom line don’t go any further at your peril compression ratio is 96 kbps and maybe the files will sound OK. There is no guarantee.
If you try a few files compressed at this ratio first and check them before doing the lot you might save yourself some work.
Even then with such a small reduction in file size you’d still fill the extra space very quickly.
You might not gain enough extra space to make it worthwhile.
Audio information is discarded when converting to mp3 with a resulting loss of quality but at 128 kbps is still acceptable.
Reduce the file size further and the loss of quality may become apparent.

To compress audio file size means you would need to reduce the quality of the sound. Download audacity http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download... and make your music file play at lower bitrate (kbps).
Also consider buying new mp3s with expandable memory like the Sandisk Sansa range http://www.sansa.com/ (reads micro SD)
