Recovery Software For Usb Flash Drive?

I was told there is a software program i can purchase that can recover files. i was working on a file when i closed and wanted to save changes it informed me to format, the computer would not read the Flash. i know if i reformat i’ll lose everything, but can i really pay something to recover?
