I accidentally formatted my SD card while it was in my Canon Power Shot SD 600 camera which deleted about 400 vacation photos. This is very devastating to our family. Is there a way to recover the pictures from our SD card? I contacted the Canon and they told me that there is software out there to do this. I use a SanDisk SD card. Please help. I am desperate and will pay any amount to get back our memories.

Got back from a trip, loaded pictures and hit the start slide show button, nothing happened, can’t stop, can’t do anything. Feeling tired and short of patient, I pushed the power button thinking I’ll restart the computer. It didn’t reboot and a message telling me to backup my data, my hard drive is in imminant danger or something. I selected restart normally, it didn’t work, tried restart using last known settings, it took about 6 hours and went back to the same screen, I later found out that would’ve damaged my hard drive a lot more. I tried putting in a copy of XP professional to try to cause it to perform checkdisk, it says no TLDR, and went back to the same message about hard drive problem. I tried the recovery disk expecting to find advance option to either install master boot or perform non-destructive system recovery per manuel, found out that it didn’t give me the choice, paniced when I saw partitioning hard drive, I ejected the recovery disk and here I am.

My harddisk crashed few days ago due to which I lost my all data. Although after re-installation it is working but it has developed many bad sector and hence it may crash again. My concern is the recovery of data. Can anyone tell me about good data recovery software? particularly:
software which allows scan for specific portions of partition so that recovery process can be carried out in stages since it takes very long time to scan whole partition specially when there are bad sectors?
Also allow to choose specific files (by types, name, size etc) to search?

Your first thought may be that when you ‘delete’ the file, the data is gone. Not quite, when you delete a file, the operating system does not really remove the file from the disk; it only removes the reference of the file from the file system table. The file remains on the disk until another file is created over it, and even after that, it might be possible to recover data by studying the magnetic fields on the disk platter surface. Before the file is overwritten, anyone can easily retrieve it with a disk maintenance or an undelete utility.
There are several problems in secure file removal, mostly caused by the use of write cache, construction of the hard disk and the use of data encoding. So erase them using softwares made for that purpose. There are so many erasers freely available in the internet like the following:
Eraser
East-Tec Eraser 5.6,
Shredder 2.5.3,
InternetSpurenVernicter 7.0.2,
DataVernichter 7.3.0.4,
BCWipe 3.0.5,
Shredder 5.0 &
File Shredder 5.5. Use any of them. I found the sw ‘BCWipe 3.0.5′ very useful and easy to use.
