Hi,
I have an external hard disk of valuable data that went under formatting by mistake. The partition it has was removed it seems, and now if we connect the external hard disk it does not get recognized. Probably because there is no File System in there.
So what’s best thing to do to save he data? If we try to format it with new file system, would we be able to recover the data through data recovery tools? As I know FORMAT does not erase all data on disk, it just creates a new file system and marks remaining data as empty.
If not, what would be the best option to get the data back?
Thanks

If it was a QUICK format, then yes all the data is still there, just the directory structure is gone (may lose the names of folders but not whats inside)
I strongly recommend checking out http://www.freehdrepair.com as you will find your answer there.
I feel for ya dude – now you have to ask yourself, ‘how much is the data worth’, because you will pay thru the nose for a data recovery service to get that data…I think the “Unformat” command went out with DOS…
There are products out there to do a recovery. Also, you could pay someone to do it. I ran a quick Google search and found 3 products quickly.
It depends.. If you did a quickformat you are ok and can fix this.. If you did a total format, you may be in some trouble.http://www.thefreecountry.com/utilities/…
That list has a bunch of tools that are free for data recovery. Try PC Inspector and see what happens, it should be able to recover the partition.
